Both Carol and Alison can be heard on CBC Radio 1 in Calgary at around 7:15am on Wednesday 18 October. If you're in the Calgary area, tune in for the interview! BC, here we come! Carol will be heading west on Thursday to complete the last leg of the Trans-Canada Highway from Banff to Victoria. She'll be in BC from Thursday through the following Wednesday, when duty calls and she has to be back in Montreal. Due to the fires this summer, Carol and Alison had to turn back when they got to the Alberta-BC border in July. Because of their different teaching schedules, they won't be able to travel together on this leg, but Alison will travel the BC portion of the Yellowhead Highway, the northwest arm of the Trans-Canada, to Prince Rupert later this year. Alison's taking the Yellowhead since she lives in Saskatoon, a stop on that arm. It'll be interesting to compare the scenery along the two arms of the highway and how the fires affected the landscape along each. Both Carol and Alison can be heard on CBC Radio 1 in Calgary at around 7:15am on Wednesday 18 October. If you're in the Calgary area, tune in for the interview!

Check out the CBC 2017 website - Christa Coutoure has written great piece on the project for their Canada 150 feature site. Thanks, Christa!
I have been spending a good amount of time in my studio, as well as fostering a new-to-me cat. She loves silence which works for me.
It is funny how there is still no one style for creating any painting, just doing what I feel is needed at the time. The top right painting is my newest, and it presented quite a dilemma as I didn't want to lose the detailed outline of the trees to the mist. Finally, I remembered about "masking fluid" and the bottle tucked at the back of a drawer from ten years ago. It was far too thick, so this painting had to wait until last night to really get going. This particular painting doesn't photograph well, so I am enjoying the real thing in my apartment before it heads to Montreal for framing. Thanksgiving is here! Aside from turkey and trimmings, which husband Dan is overseeing this year, it's a great time to do some more painting. I've turned my attention back west this week after several Newfoundland scenes. This week I'm near Brooks, Alberta - at least on canvas. I love the earth tones - the drying grass, dirt road, rusting gate, wood posts - in contrast to the parallel world of tar and metal of the highway, vehicles and transmission towers. This picture is a step back from the high speed, high tech world of modernity to a more leisurely pace of life. It's good to get off of the highway once in a while, even by just a few metres. Although we know we have to return to the road soon, the break is refreshing. And it's good to know there's cell coverage here! This is nearly done - just have to get the towers filled in. Carol
